DRYWALL (Gypsum Board, Plasterboard)
Drywall is a sheet material having
a gypsum core faced with paper on each side, used for covering walls or
as lath.
Gypsum board is the name for a family
of panel products consisting of a non-combustible core, primarily of gypsum,
with a paper surfacing on the face, back and long edges.
Gypsum is one of the oldest building
materials known to man. The ancient Egyptians used a form of gypsum in
the construction of the pyramids. The Greeks, who called the substance
"Gypsos," fashioned their temple windows from gypsum so that
light filtering through appeared similar to moonlight.

Fire Rating - 45min., 1HR, 2HR,
3HR, 4HR
The term Fire Resistance designates
the ability of a constructed assembly to contain a fire. Such an assembly
might be a partition, a floor/ceiling or a protected column. The degree
to which such assemblies prevent the spread of fire or damaging heat is
indicated in intervals of time. If a construction assembly contains the
fire and heat for two hours and meets other requirements during the test,
it is given a two hour Fire Resistance rating.

with tapered edge permits smooth joint
treatment; surface takes any decoration. Basic recommendations: 1/2"
board for single layer; 3/8" board for 2-layer; 1/4" board is
regular gypsum wallboard used in remodeling and sound control in double
layer applications.
a wall board panel consists of a fire-resistive
gypsum core encased in heavy natural-side and strong liner paper on the
backside to which aluminum foil is laminated. The ends are square cut and
finished smooth.
